Blue-and-black tanager
ID Features: Mostly blue with black wings, small black mask, and one blue wingbar. Could be confused with Masked Flowerpiercer but note black wings and more restricted black mask.
Habitat: This small tanager is found in the upper subtropical and temperate forest, higher than most other small Andean tanagers. Fairly common; usually found in pairs, often following a mixed species flock through the canopy.
Locations: Ecuador, Bolivia, Peru, Colombia
Blue Finch
ID Features: Slim finch with a long bill. Males are unmistakable, with indigo-blue plumage and yellow bill. Females are buff brown above and heavily streaked below; bill yellowish, with dusky upper edge.
Habitat: Usually encountered in rocky savanna habitats.

Masked Flowerpiercer
ID Features: Fairly large flowerpiercer, almost all blue with black mask and red eye. Bill is upturned with a hook at the tip, typical of a flowerpiercer. Fairly active like a warbler or small tanager, often following a mixed-species flock but sometimes foraging separately. Could be confused with Blue-and-black Tanager but note bill shape and blue (not black) wings. Separated from other flowerpiercers by bright blue color combined with black mask. Feeds on fruit, nectar, and insects.
Habitat: Quite common and widespread in the Andes from Venezuela to Bolivia, usually above 2,000 meters.
